This year the Bougainville Chocolate Festival will be held in Buin, South Bougainville. The festival is part of the Autonomous Bougainville Government's commitment to sustainable growth in the agriculture industry and will bring together cocoa farmers and stakeholders from across Bougainville and overseas.

Join us for 3 days of of field days with entertainment, agriculture displays, business showcases and, of course, chocolate tasting. This year tourism activities will also be included, giving you the opportunity to explore the sites and cultures of South Bougainville.

Rotokas Cultural Show and Upe Symposium

Protecting Our Sacred Identity, Preserving Our Culture, Empowering Our Future.

The inaugural Rotokas Cultural Show and Upe Symposium will be held from 15–17 December 2026, bringing together traditional custodians, chiefs, communities, government and young people to celebrate and strengthen protection of the Upe and Rotokas cultural heritage.

The programme will include oral histories, traditional stories and performances, cultural exhibitions and an Upe Symposium involving traditional custodians, chiefs, elders, women, youth, veterans, government representatives and cultural experts.

The event will involve the six constituencies connected to the Rotokas cultural area, alongside government agencies, tourism organisations, private-sector partners and development stakeholders.

Tama Festival

The Tama Festival showcases the unique traditional cuisine of the people of Bougainville. The tamatama is a local delicacy which can be made from banana, taro, cassava or sago. Visitors will have the chance to savor a variety of traditionally prepared tamatama from around Bougainville.

There are also displays of arts and crafts and cultural groups performances.

Presented by the Bougainville Arts, Culture and Tourism Authority (BACTA) and the PNG National Film Institute (NFI), with support from the governments of Australia and New Zealand, TUKANA - one of PNG’s most loved films - is returning to Bougainville.

Free community screenings of the digitally restored classic will be showing:

  • Thursday 30 July - Bougainville Technical College, Tinputz

  • Friday 31 July - Hutjena Oval, Buka

  • Saturday 1 August - Independence Park, Arawa

  • Monday 3 August - Mamaromino Women’s Resource Centre, Buin

5.30pm - Welcome remarks and speeches

6.30pm - Film screening
